At UC Merced, we recognize the immense potential of our UC Merced scholars and the importance of preparing them for success beyond their academic journey. The UC Merced Opportunities Fellowship Program (OFP) provides scholars an opportunity to participate in meaningful experiential learning projects across campus that help foster their academic, personal, and professional growth.
These experiential learning projects are only open to current UC Merced scholars. Funding will be awarded through the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships as a fellowship and will be added to scholar financial aid awards.
Mentor FAQs
All current UC Merced staff, faculty, and administrators who submit an approved OFP project proposal can serve as an OFP mentor.
- Scholars: Participants will gain valuable experience and develop essential skills necessary to continue their growth as well-rounded individuals and professionals. OFP will also facilitate scholars' ability to make informed academic and professional choices while simultaneously building valuable connections within the campus community.
- UC Merced Faculty/Departments/Units: OFP will tap into the fresh perspectives and innovative ideas of scholars within the UC Merced community. By involving scholars, UC Merced will benefit from enhanced services, new resources, and increased knowledge contributing to a more vibrant and engaged campus community.
All OFP mentors are expected to:
- Guide and support the OFP fellow (s) during the length of the project.
- Meet with the OFP fellow (s) regularly to help facilitate the scholar’s progress.
- Complete the project check-in surveys that will be administered by OFP staff.
- Help the OFP fellow (s) prepare the needed materials to present the culmination of their project during the OFP showcase in April 2025.
- Contact OFP staff if they have any questions or concerns during the course of the program.
- Proposed projects may not replace or replicate existing student employment or undergraduate research position(s).
- The experiential learning project must have defined deliverables.
- It is expected that OFP scholars will dedicate 8-10 hours per week focusing on their experiential learning projects.
- OFP experiential learning projects are expected to be completed within the 2024-2025 academic year and will run from September 2024 through April 2025.
